San Miguel de Allende
Eric Mencher
The streets of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, are alive. Animated with people, animals, conversation, music, and more. One need only observe the sounds and the rhythms to know that the true theater of life is acted out daily, right here, in these cobble-stoned streets. It’s where shadows of men pass by ghost-like wall etchings and wall etchings hover over men like details from a Miró painting. And like with all Latin cultures, festivals seem to dominate the street-life as beauty queens and demons alike attract attention and men fly through the sky with the greatest of ease. Irony and contrast come from nowhere, often fleeting, but always available to those who pay attention. This is the daily magic that appears and disappears and reappears in the streets of San Miguel.
